Darren Dempster is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Brooklyn. His sources of inspiration include symbols and icons from urban, Caribbean, and Latin cultures. Themes like nostalgia, identity, divinity, and integration are explored in Dempster’s work.
Dempster studied Chemistry and Graphic Design at SUNY Purchase College and formerly served on the Joan Mitchell Foundation Alumni Council’s Exhibitions Committee. With the Joan Mitchell Foundation, he has conducted workshops to establish a network for emerging artists of colour. Dempster has shown in group shows at Galera PADA, CUE Art Foundation, Hamilton Landmark Gallery, and Ortega y Gasset Projects, among others.
